Thank You Lord for My DVR!
I was at work the other day and mentioned to someone how much I love my new DVR. Before I knew it, there were about four of us all talking about it and how great it makes watching television.
Watch When You Want
One of the things I hate about television is the time they put the shows on. For some bizarre reason, a lot of the shows I like are on Friday night. FRIDAY NIGHT! And then there are the start times for sports. I live out west, but love my New York Jets. The games come on at 10:00 am in the morning and I miss them while at church. This is where the DVR has made things so much easier.
The DVR is great because you can just pick what you want to watch, record it and then watch it when you like. Those Jets games? I invite friends over and we watch them Sunday afternoon. The Friday night shows? I watch them Wednesday nights when there is nothing else on.
Die Commercials!
I don't know about you, but I hate commercials. First off, there are way too many of them. We fast forwarded through the commercials on a Simpson's episode a week ago. The actual show was like 19 minutes with 11 minutes of commercials. That's almost as many commercials as show time! With the DVR, you just hit the skip 30 seconds button and blow right through them.
Family Harmony
The one thing I really love about the DVR is the family harmony it provides. We often get into it over what show we are going to watch on Mondays. I want to watch House. My wife wants to watch No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain. Now, we just watch one and record the other. No hard feelings!
One of the amazing things about the DVR is I only had to pay $5 a month for it. I have satellite service [Dish Network] and bought it without really understanding what it was. Thank God! This is the best $5 a month I've ever spent. My buddy Todd ordered Dish two weeks ago after watching games with me and said he got it free. That's incredible. Anyway, it is something that will change the way you watch TV and it won't even cost you anything.
I may not know what "DVR" stands for, but I know I love it. Remember when you first started logging on to the web. You probably used a dialup modem through AOL or someone. The...pages...would...load...so...slow. It would driver you crazy. Then suddenly, you found out about DSL and cable connections. The first time you tried them, you wanted to drop to your knees and give thanks! That's the way you'll feel after a week with your DVR! You won't be able to live without it. I can't!
